He is a Chartered Engineer with over 20 years’ experience in energy and sustainability improvements for many organisations, ranging from commercial companies to hospitals, and roles from Energy Manager for a large airport to the Sustainability Director for a tourism business. He understands that biggest savings come about through combining technical and people solutions. James is also Consultant Editor for Croner’s Energy Management (industry bible for energy managers) and lead trainer for organisations such as the Energy Institute and City University and is a regular contributor to industry conferences and head judge for industry awards.

 

 

ALUN OTTLEY CEng MCIBSE, Engineering Associate in partnership with ARO Consultants

Alun has managed the engineering services for large complex facilities and has acted as lead energy champion delivering record 30%+ energy savings for his organisation. He offers strong technical and organisational skills to support the Discovery Mill approach, working with local teams to optimise engineering systems, make savings and deliver overall continuous improvement. Alun believes that investment targeted at multiple business benefits is a key way to deliver in today’s increasingly challenging marketplace.

 

 

JOHN MASON, Communications Associate in partnership with Ingenious Ideas

John helps us with added creativity to rally everyday champions and communicate what makes an idea worth believing in. Simplifying the communications is often the hardest part of what we do. Coming from a creative background, John inputs creativity and is conversant in the full media spectrum – online and offline, awareness-building and more results-driven. Probing for hidden meanings, discovering insights and contributing to successful integrated campaigns are what he does best.

 

 

 

CHARLES BRINDLEY, Commissioning Associate in partnership with Active Thinking

Charles has 20 years’ experience in delivering great customer experience, whether it’s for general operations or one of the largest customer experience projects in the country. This often means drawing on customer feedback and insights to help us understand exactly what customers need, target the best opportunities for improvement and getting the brief right to feed into new facilities – to commission systems for optimum performance. Charles prides himself in ensuring that project work is done in an open, transparent and co-operative manner.

 

 

 

KRISTINA ALLISON, Lighting Associate in partnership with Lighting Enterprises

Kristina is a lighting designer who specialises in ‘energy effective’ lighting solutions delivering well lit environments, energy efficiency and reduced maintenance costs, combined with the smart commissioning of lighting controls. She gets involved with Discovery Mill leadership workshops and optimisation projects, to help us bring together the technical and behavioural aspects of change. Kristina supports the industry, is an Associate Member of the Society of Light and Lighting, and sits on their communications committee.

 

 

BEVERLEY LISTER, Environmental Sustainability Associate in partnership with Beverley Lister Associates

Beverley is an environmental and sustainability specialist who has worked with some of the largest construction projects in the country as well as in the commercial and higher education sectors. We can draw on her 18+ years’ experience spanning sustainable design and fit-out, to delivery of on-site environmental programmes and operational environmental management systems. She helps set realistic objectives for organisations to maintain momentum. Beverley also has a keen interest in permaculture design and gardening.

 

 

ADRIAN FOSTER-FLETCHER, Commercial Associate in association with Focus

Adrian has owned and run his own businesses for 25 years; most recently in energy saving technologies, previously in recruitment and mentoring. He has worked with many of the UK’s most successful companies, for Vodafone he was responsible for their initial ‘greening’ and subsequent market leading position on environmental issues. Adrian has a masters’ degree in environmental management and, since 1999, has also been a Director of TV Energy, a not-for-profit organisation providing consultancy to install renewable energy technologies.

 

 

SARAH PARKER, Low Carbon Associate in association with Equinoxe Services

Sarah subscribes to the Discovery Mill approach, blending leadership with energy and environmental management. She has developed online know-how resources to facilitate the delivery of energy projects and behaviour change initiatives, developing tools that support better sustainability practices and the transition to a low carbon economy. Sarah is also an everyday champion for her local community, providing on-the-ground advice and energy audits. She was awarded the London City’s Fuellers Prize for her masters’ degree project in energy management.

 

 

ANDY DOBBS Eng Tech MIET MICM, Projects Associate in association with DobbSolv Ltd

Andy is an Engineer with a proven track record in process development, continuous improvement, line management and project management. He follows the Discovery Mill aims and is passionate about helping people help themselves. Andy has over 25 years’ experience in an airport environment undertaking various roles within engineering and performance improvement teams up to a Senior Manager level. He is 6 Sigma qualified and uses techniques such as lean, 8D and 5S to facilitate projects and develop team skills and performance.

 

 

And back at the office, ALISON BRITTAIN runs our administration systems including our financial control and quality assurance processes. She is also a qualified natural heath practitioner and has a keen interest in sustainable tourism and travel.
