ESOS ENERGY AUDITS THROUGH YOUR PEOPLE

Many energy audits have historically focused solely on technical opportunities; however we find many organisations then struggle to effectively sell and implement the solutions internally or find that savings simply fall away over time due to behaviour issues.

We believe ESOS energy audits are a great opportunity to tackle both the technical and behavioural aspects of change at the same time.  Approaching energy audits ‘through people’ is often about connecting up your teams, raising awareness and empowering your people to get more involved.

ESOS is the UK legislation that requires all large enterprises to audit their energy performance and identify energy opportunities every four years – this applies to all businesses and not-for-profit organisations with 250+ employees, or a €50m+ turnover and a €43m+ balance sheet.

The deadline for meeting Phase 2 compliance is the 5th December 2019.

We believe ESOS energy audits are a great opportunity to tackle both the technical and behavioural aspects at the same time. Approaching energy audits through people is often about connecting up your teams, raising awareness and empowering your people to get more involved.

The UK Government estimates these energy opportunities are potentially worth 196 TWh; that’s equivalent to £19.6bn cost savings to the UK economy by 2020.

The Discovery Mill ‘energy audit through people’ approach

Born out of success from the Big Green Events from Heathrow 10 years ago or so now, we’ve been developing the approach ever since.

The approach is based on working in partnership with our client’s teams and draws on industry good practice principles for energy audits, using standards such as ISO 50002 and BS EN 162471 and systematic methods, tailored tools and training. This often involves energy reviews, reciprocal auditing, energy treasure hunts and other ways to help teams review energy performance locally across many areas and identify the best opportunities to deliver energy savings at scale.

We can cater for different levels of audits: including a Type 1 preliminary audit, a Type 2 more detailed audit and a Type 3 comprehensive investment grade audit.

If you think ESOS phase 2 may be a ’through people’ opportunity for you, please get in touch if you’d like to hear more.
